Assisting Nicaraguan Society-The Children’s Fund (ANS-TCF) passionately believes that education is one of the routes that need to be prioritized to enable children to break the chains of bondage to poverty that they have lived in.
While in some cases we provide school supplies in others we provide school uniforms or shoes, depending on the economic reality of each family. We are partners in education. Our role is not to give a free ride but to reduce the financial burden of the family so that the children can go to school, but also eat and be healthy. We look at each family, talk with them and then decide where we can provide that extra push so they can benefit from an education.
Since the onset of ANS-TCF, we have worked hand in hand with parents within our community to assist them in getting their children into school and to reduce the high abandonment rate that has prevailed within our educational system.
Public schools in Nicaragua are free but public-school students are required to wear uniforms including black shoes and belts in addition to needing a backpack and all the normal school supplies that a child requires. These are neither provided by the school system nor are they free.
Although the government vaunts itself by promoting “education for all”, reality tells us that while education may be free, numerous children don’t have access to it because their families must make choices between nutrition or health and schooling.
The cost of providing children with the uniforms and all the other supplies reaches almost U$ 150 dollars and if you multiply this by the number of children that belong to one family, the cost is simply prohibitive.
Contribute to the health and education of children and families who would otherwise stay chained to an endless a cycle of poverty.
